Sahyadri Nisarg Jeevan Sanstha - Vrindavan Balak Ashram

Ramesh Kukreja with the children from Vrindavan

Vrindavan is a residential institution that serves as a home for poor children. It is located at Badlapur which is about 50 kms from Mumbai City in a picturesque area surrounded by hills. Presently it accommodates around 29 children between the ages of 5 and 18 years and caters to their basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, education, medical facilities, etc. Vrindavan provides each child with a firm educational foundation and nurtures self-esteem and human values in an atmosphere of love, compassion, freedom.

History: Vrindavan is founded and run by Sahyadri Nisarg Jeevan Sanstha, a public charitable trust registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1914 and the Societies Registration Act. It is also registered with the Income Tax Department as a charitable institution and holds 80-G exemption Certificate.

The Trust was incorporated in the year 2004 by Ramesh Kukreja family. Apart from running Vrindavan, the Trust runs a Nature Care Centre and promotes village welfare activities.

The Children who were formerly in another orphanage had to vacate due to unsatisfactory circumstances and were stranded. As they required immediate shelter, initially Ramesh Kukreja and family sheltered all 29 children in their house. Thereafter, the cow shed was converted into temporary structure and the children are at present occupying the same. It is a make shift arrangement. As the existing structure is in a dilapidated state and unfit for prolonged habitation, the trustees have come up with a project to fulfil the current and future needs of Vrindavan.

Proposed Project:
The trustees having considered that the building being in a dilapidated condition and too small and inadequate to accommodate 29 children have undertaken construction of  a new building  to provide basic shelter and amenities for at least 40 children. The land admeasuring half an acre required for this project has been donated by  Mr. Ramesh Kukreja and the land now is duly registered in the name of trust. SKP Group along with Kukreja family and other trustees have assumed the responsibility of this project from conceptualisation to completion.

The Project envisages a constructed area of 6400 sq. ft for the Children's Home, which can accomodate 40 children. The proposed home intends to provide separate dormitory facilities for boys and girls with attached toilets, an independent kitchen, a main hall for dining and recreation purposes, training centre for computer and tailoring, and superintendent quarters along with a library. There is a central open courtyard for Yoga, sports and other recreational activities. A provision has also been made for a children's park and playground. The construction cost of the Building is estimated at Rs.30 Lacs (3 million) . The construction of the building has commenced from May 2008 and the estimated date of completion is February 2009
